Arsenal fans were awestruck by Gabriel Magalhaes’ heroic goal-preventing challenge in their 2-1 victory over Wolves on Saturday (2 December).
The Gunners put Gary O’Neil’s side to the sword at the Emirates and got the job done after 13 minutes with goals from Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard.
Mikel Arteta’s side survived a late scare after Matheus Cunha’s brilliant finish into the top corner in the 86th minute, but they secured all three points and confirmed they will remain at the top of the Premier League table at the end of the weekend.
However, the result could have been much different if not for Magalhaes’ “unreal” challenge on Wolves’ goalscorer late in the first half.
Cunha was one-on-one with David Raya but Magalhaes quickly recovered with a brutish but fair challenge to keep the score at 2-0, and fans were quick to take to social media and hail the “elite” tackle.
This fan was amused by his reaction after the excellent challenge.
One supporter simply hailed him as “monstrous”.
One fan noted how much development the 25-year-old has seen in north London.
Another fan noted the close margins of the challenge and insisted that if he slightly mistimed it, he could have been walking back to the dressing room.
